"Because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake." -1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NIV)
"Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should." -Ephesians 6:19-20 (NIV)
There's an often-quoted exhortation: "Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary, us words."
Words place a necessary role in sharing the gospel with others, but actions often speak louder than words. Therefore, our lives ought to reflect the truth of the transformational power of Christ to save, change, mobilize and empower us.
Paul's words to the Christ-followers in Thessalonica echo this sentiment. The Holy Spirit can empower our words and deeds to work in unison, to proclaim the gospel. And more so, the Holy Spirit goes before us, preparing hearts to see, hear and receive the Good News.
We are simply messengers, called and empowered to share, with the words God gives us, the work He's doing in our lives and the good deeds He calls us to do.
