Today's Scripture
“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers. Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them. Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and
your purity.
— 1 Timothy 4:8-12 (NLT)
We often call people that we look up to or admire “role models.” A role model is someone others look to as a good example. Can you think about what a Jesus-loving role model might look like?
The Bible tells us to watch how Jesus followers live and try to be like them. In today’s reading, Paul told Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example to all believers in what you say, what you do, and how you love” (1 Tim. 4:12).
When we love Jesus, we are called to be an example in what we say, in what we do and how we love others. No matter how old you are, you can reflect the life and love of Jesus and be a role model to others! How do we do that? We live by the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit. Living a life that shows our faith helps others see Jesus in us.
Think of someone in your life who reflects Jesus—a Jesus-loving role model. Invite each family member to think of someone as well. Now, write thank-you notes to those people, sharing why they’re important to you and how you’re grateful they represent Jesus in your life. Then, decorate your notes any way you would like!
Thank God for the people in your life who reflect Jesus. Next, ask the Holy Spirit to use your life to be a Jesus-loving role model to someone else.
