Reflect on the Word

What's your favorite fruit? How does it grow to become the fruit you like so much? Jesus taught that just like you can identify a tree by its fruit, you can identify people by their actions-by what they do and say (Matt. 7:15-20)

No apple ever said, "I'm going to try really, really hard to become an apple!" Apples (as well as other fruit) just pop out when the tree gets what it needs: good soil, water and sunshine.

As followers of Jesus, when we take time to simply be with Jesus by praying, reading His Word and listening to Him, we get what we need for the Holy Spirit to work a miracle through us. The Holy Spirit changes us to be more and more like Jesus, and people will see and experience the fruit of His Spirit popping out of our lives!

Reflect, pray + bless

  1. Reflect: As we spend time with Jesus, the Holy Spirit changes us, making us more and more like Jesus.
  2. Pray: On a piece of paper, write down the fruits of the Spirit, and if you like, draw a different fruit to symbolize each. Which of the fruits of the Spirit do you observe in different family members? Name these to one another, then pray together, thanking God for the Spirit's transforming work in you family.
  3. Bless: "[Child's name], may you desire to spend time with Jesus, making way for the Holy Spirit to work in you. And may your life reflect the fruit of His Spirit as He makes you more and more like Jesus."
